Lucky were we to be given the opportunity to sponsor the print industry’s latest champion, Justus Magazine, for their second issue ‘To Letterpress With Love’. And how could we resist, with the entire journal lovingly dedicated to showcasing the dark art that is so dear to our hearts – letterpress. Watermarx Graphics has supported Justus Magazine since its debut last year, featuring a fully embossed and letterpressed advert in Issue 01 > An Ode To Foil, but we knew that we wanted to be involved more closely in this unique industry collaboration and jumped at the chance to be the primary embellishment sponsor. This unique publication is a showcase of the print graphic design industry in Australia and pays homage to the design community’s finest work, as well as the craftspeople in the printing industry who keep the standard and quality of the printed work produced, high.

It was an exciting chance for us to utilise the CLIQX technology to its full potential (which made a time sensitive project much easier to manage that it would have been otherwise!) We embossed the outer cover on the lovely Stephen stock using CLIQX and letterpress printed the inner cover on beer matt board with orange fluro ink for wow-factor. We embossed, debossed and letterpressed 11 pages throughout the magazine and the result is just wonderful. So if you haven’t subscribed, get thee over to the Justus website to sign up and luxuriate in this tome of letterpress delights!

If you haven’t heard already, Watermarx Graphics along with its technology arm has spent years of R&D developing the now patent pending CLIQX embossing technology and we are producing the most amazing work with crisp clean striking results.

The CLIQX embossing die system utilises a water washed-out male and female photopolymer die set on a magnetic mount – phew, what a mouthful!

Basically, photopolymer dies are a modern alternative to metal dies. Designs are from the computer and processed onto these plates using a water wash out process which are quickly produced, durable enough to be used for short or long runs and are more economical than metal dies.

The CLIQX embossing system can be used on an existing die cutting cylinder or platen machine and used in line with die cutting forms. This allows the machinist to die cut and emboss in the same pass, which can be a serious time saver – Watermarx is talking to printers that are also interested in licensing the system, so they too can offer a CLIQX emboss.

Watermarx also have a CLIQX foil stamping system that is also patent pending – but that’s another story…
