YAY FOR LOVE! | We Celebrate Australia’s YES Vote

rainbow ink splash celebrates the yes voteYES VOTE! |  Australia has resoundingly voted Yes! to marriage equality in a historic result last week. 7.8 million people cast their vote for “YES” and the nation has truly shown its support for the rights of same-sex couples to wed.

Vote Yes For Local Business

As a family-run Australian business, we couldn’t be more proud that the yes voters of Australia have shown support for our friends and family who, until now, have been forced to marry overseas in countries that recognise the right for gay couples to walk down the aisle. Now, with this result in the survey, we expect to see it legalised here soon so that those couples will have the same right to marry here in Australia, using Aussie wedding experts to help them plan and arrange their special day.

Vote Yes For Beautiful Design & Designer Printing

Watermarx is delighted with the yes vote result—we say bring on the fabulousness! We love a good wedding and can’t wait to work on invitations for the weddings. From letterpress, to foil gilding, stamping, embossing, debossing, we can’t wait to discuss papers and inks with you. Finally, the time is now to start planning a beautiful stationery suite that celebrates the love of your union, here in Oz!

MARRIAGE WITH TEXTURE | Wedding stationery with all the feels

DAPPLED ENVELOPEWedding Invitations | The season is almost upon us and we’re busy bees here at the shop, helping bring to life some incredible collaborations between original brides, grooms and wedding planners, and their creatively-minded designers.

This beautifully-designed wedding stationery was digitally printed, then we foil stamped and letterpress debossed it with CLIQX. We mounted it, applied a dappled texture effect with CLIQX to the envelope (by now we’re sure you have heard that we are patterning digital stocks, YAY!)  and sent it off to love, to the clever designers at Hawk Creative who really do give us some amazing jobs to work on!

For those who—just like us—have got the geeky letterpress bug or that love the luxurious press of cotton stock against their fingertips, or have always dreamed of their name alongside their future spouse’s in the shimmering lights of foil-stamping, we’d love to print your wedding invitations. It’s truly one of the most lovely parts of this gig as specialty commercial printers. What could be more special than the stationery that sends out the word that a pair is getting hitched? We love love, here at Watermarx Graphics, and we have been

We love love, here at Watermarx Graphics, and we have been nerding over paper, print and design for a loooooong time. If you are planning a wedding (your own or someone else’s) and want to find a cost-effective way to have eye-popping, heart-stopping wedding invitations, then give us a call. We’ve got tricks and tips galore that can help you create truly unique wedding stationery that tells a story through the senses, without breaking the bank.  We’re friendly, so don’t be shy.

Tips for couples and wedding planners organising their invitations:

Don’t leave printing to the last minute. We don’t mean to nag… but really, guys. It might take longer than you think, there are other jobs on the presses and all kinds of other variables. We do make miracles happen here, but we’re mere mortals after all. Why be stressing over this when there are plenty of other aspects of wedding planning you can get your knickers in a twist over!

Don’t start your plan with the paper. Have an overall vision and bounce it off us. We have great paper suppliers and have our mitts all over beautiful stocks all day. We know what paper works with which embellishments, so chances are, we’ll have a nifty suggestion for the stock that will bring to life your idea.

Be smart with colour. Many people don’t realise that with the art of letterpress printing, every different colour, requires a new pass through the machine. Reducing the colours you choose for letterpress printing will make a difference to the cost. If you have a colourful and complicated design, often it’s best to print this part digitally and then highlight elements or print the text with letterpress, or foil like we did for Hawk Creative on this job.

Happy wedding planning!

WOODEN YOU KNOW IT? | Invitation with wood paper from KW Doggett

To celebrate the wonderful, Wood FX Birch, a KW Doggett stock that is really rustling the leaves of the design community, we recently got to do one of our favourite things – collaborate!

Our brief from KW Doggett was “wood” and – wooden you know it? – we had some bright ideas about what we could do with that!

Wood FX Birch is real wood that prints just like paper and has a white reverse. It’s a beautiful, printable wood veneer that lends itself to everything from eco business, vintage-themed projects, to outdoor weddings, and flexible enough for presentation folders, business cards, menus, and, of course, invitations.

We foiled stamped the names on the wooden front in a gunmetal foil. Then, we mounted the reverse of the card to cotton stock and letterpress printed it. The bride and groom used the same front mounted to black white paper for their thank you cards.

Woof FX is a unique and versatile stock, that can be letterpressed. It comes in both Birch (used for this project) and Cherry. We don’t want to get sappy (get it?) but we’re pretty excited about this innovation, that brings a lot of personality to print, and we can’t wait to work with more of it.

Talk to us about how it can be used in your next creative project. We wood love to work with you on something amazing!
